A talented wood carver recognized for his detailed whale carvings.
Working in a cozy workshop filled with the scent of fresh wood, Marty spends many hours honing his craft. He blends traditional methods with his artistic vision to bring these marine creatures to life.
Each piece starts with reclaimed wood. Marty carefully sketches his ideas before carving. Using various tools to shape each whale and capture its unique form and texture. He finishes each piece with hand-applied paint and details that enhance the carving's depth.

How Swell Creations Started: Marty received a whale made from wood found on the beach he and his wife had their first date. He really liked the gift, but truly loved the idea of making whales from wood. Marty felt sure he would be able to make beautiful, original whales.
In 2024, Marty went from ideas to action. First, he cleared out his two car garage and turned the space into a workshop. He repurposed kitchen cabinets and bowling alley lanes, created moving tool and wood carts, and turned the garage into a woodworker’s paradise.
A bit of a pack rat, over the years, Marty saved wood from his 1940s craftsman bungalow, old fences, earlier projects, and also accepted donations from his wife from her morning beach walks.
